Training in Canine Behavior |

Don't Believe Everything You Hear |
When it comes to training in canine behavior,
you may do well to turn to professional dog training
advice written by experts instead of taking your
well-meaning friends' free-flowing advice. If you are
struggling with dog behavior problems and the appropriate
corrections, you will find yourself flooded with
authoritative well-meant tips coming at you from all sides
- even from people who have never owned a dog.
Should You Learn Dog Behavior Training
Online?
Many people go online to find answers to their questions, and
the internet is an excellent source of information for all
sorts of subjects. But the internet is also rife with misguided
advice. Why, I have found advice regarding dog behavior training online which
literally made the hair stand on my back. I couldn't help but
wonder where those people were coming from, and worse how their
dogs managed to survive. My heart just shatters when I think of
them. And yet, those people are convinced they're doing the
right thing.
If you happen on advice given by well-informed veterinarians,
dog behaviorists, or dog trainers who really love dogs, you may
well have stumbled on priceless information. Professional
information will empower you to raise and train your dog
confidently, with a clear conscience, and without constantly
second-guessing whether you are doing the right thing for your
pooch. It is perplexing for a new dog owner to follow a
friend's advice and have it backfire.
In my humble opinion, a minute percentage of dog owners out
there ever bother to find out about canine psychology before
they acquire a dog. They raise their dog willy-nilly and
occasionally hit pay dirt: their dog will choose to behave that
one time (for all the wrong reasons, I might add), and they
take full credit. Trust me, you don't want to venture down that
path with your four-legged friend.
Is a Dog Trainer the Answer?
I speak from experience when I say that a dog training course
written by professionals can save the day. My people, bless
their little hearts, took me to not one, but two dog training
classes in an attempt to make up for their complete ignorance
on training a new puppy. True, they learned something (and they
spent a lot of money), but I'm the one who got the two
diplomas. Now what does that tell you?
Mind you, I'm not complaining, I had a lot of fun: they used to
call me the 'party butterfly'. I think it would be fair to say
that the tail wagged the dog the moment we arrived. My entrance
was unfailingly spectacular. Everyone looked forward to it -
they loved my enthusiasm. My people like to rationalize that it
was money well spent, since I got 'socialized', and I guess
they're right.
Dog Training: The True Connection
But that left them in the dark and whistling dixie when we got
home, because they did not have a clue about connecting with
me. Commands were flying left, right and center, but other than
that ... nothing! Go figure, all that effort, time and money
spent, and nothing other than two diplomas (all mine). But I
felt sorry for them, because they were really trying their
best.
They were still scratching their heads when they stumbled upon
a dog behavior training course online. They learned all the
correct terminology and the various bad dog behavior signs to
watch out for. They know how to recognize specific dog
behavioral problems and the proper solutions for each of them.
And the best part is that all my schooling in dog behavior
training took place right in my home.
They really got to understand my body language, and now we
communicate flawlessly. So not only did they save money, but we
got to learn a lot about each other, and now we're the best of
friends. They keep wondering out loud how they could possibly
have gotten along without me before, and, well, I wasn't doing
so well myself. It sure was my lucky day when they sprang me
from jail!
But now I mind my manners, because they've become real pros at
spotting any sign of imminent mayhem on my part. I guess their
online course on training in canine
behavior really paid off. It's almost like they can read my
mind ... spooky!
