Free Dog Training Tips Online You Don't Want To Ignore

Dog Training & Body Language

Attention, class! I've got a lot of work on my paws today, so let's cut to the chase and get right into the meat of the matter. The three free online tips to dog training I have for you today may well be the clincher to improving your relationship with your dog to such a degree that you will become a god in your dog's eyes, and your status in the canine world will forever remain unchallenged.

Chester's Birthday Party & My First Dog Training Tip

Dog Training Tips For PartyingI recently attended a party in honor of a good friend of mine, Chester, who was turning the grand old age of five. All was going well, the canine guests generally behaving themselves, the two-legged guests charming and solicitous. There I was taking a breather from the buffet and quietly observing the scene when Harry, Chester's owner, let out a bombshell.

"Boy, do I ever need a holiday! I've had to travel twice this month Chester sit - I'm thinking of taking a week off, how's Bermuda this time of year?" This while eyeing Dolly's cleavage and slouching nonchalantly, balancing a glass of wine and nibbles. Well, I always mind my manners at parties, but my jaw nearly hit the floor ... and that is when I came up with the very best dog training tip ever.

Though humans are always boasting that they can read other people's minds through their body language, Harry was addressing Chester without looking at him or even facing him! Had Harry been paying attention, he might have noticed that he had accomplished nothing in terms of acquainting Chester with the fact that he was being addressed. As a result, Harry's command was totally ignored - and rightfully so - while Chester moved on in search of a generous soul willing to partake of a few canapes.

What struck me is that most humans are guilty of the same mistake Harry made: they fail to grasp the utmost importance of body language when communicating with dogs!

My two-legged friends, let me show you the role your body language plays in how well your dog will understand what you are trying to communicate.

Ready for Some Dog Alpha Behavior? - My Second Tip

It is a well known fact among us dogs that man likes to be obeyed. Time for me to drop my own bombshell: act like an alpha dog, and you will gain your dog's respect. Getting your dog's attention primarily has to do with posture. Your dog needs to recognize the fact that you are addressing him, and the best way to accomplish that is to stand squarely in front of him, look him straight in the eyes, and issue the command in a firm, steady voice - just like a top dog.

Now that doesn't mean shouting. Dogs have highly superior hearing, let me assure you. It is also imperative that you display a confident posture, shoulders back, chest forward, chin up. If you are dealing with a timid dog, simply relax your posture a little and use a soothing voice. Adding patience and repetitions to the mix will work wonders.

Third Tip: Give a Dog a Break!

The second of my online tips to dog training concerns your dog's state of mind at the precise moment you are issueing an order. Ordering your dog to 'stand' while he's in a playful mood is highly unlikely to produce satisfying results. Remember when you were hard at work playing hockey with your friends and your mom called you in for supper? Chances are you did not even hear her. Same here. So please cut him some slack!

While the last of my dog training tips online may also be free, it is one you don't want to dismiss lightly. In fact, it may be the most important tip of all, because it is also the most common ground for miscommunication between man and dog. Should you ever get angry with your dog because he is proving disobedient, reign in your feelings. Shouting and chasing him around the house will only make matters worse. Your dog will interpret your behavior as a new game which he will promptly join with relish.

The Importance of Dog Alpha Behavior

For your wish to become your dog's command, it is imperative that you establish your status as alpha dog as early in the relationship as possible. 'Alpha Dog' is an honorary title which we canines do not bestow lightly. You must earn it!

Let me stress that becoming alpha dog has nothing to do with harsh methods or commands, and everything to do with dog alpha behavior. When you understand how to get and keep your dog's attention and master dog language, you will have earned his respect. Show your dog how you want him to act by example. A soothing tone of voice combined with a calm demeanor will accomplish wonders. Only when your dog has calmed down can you expect results.

My dog training tips are built upon underlying canine factors. Dogs are undoubtedly highly intelligent, but underneath all those grey cells lie both a massively good-natured heart and an immense amount of goodwill. So when they err, remember these facts and treat your pooch accordingly. You will have a best friend for life.

In conclusion, please realize that there's more to training a dog than meets the eye. And who better can reveal the inner workings of a canine brain, I ask you? After all, what worked for me has to work for your dog ... or else that pooch of yours ain't got a pulse!

Now go do your homework and practice my free online tips to dog training. Class dismissed!
